What to know

Thor: Love and Thunder is a superhero movie produced by Marvel Studios. It takes place within Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The cosmic superhero action-comedy adapts elements of the Mighty Thor comic book run by Jason Aaron. Thor: Love and Thunder is directed by Taika Waititi, who co-wrote the screenplay with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson. In an attempt to bring something new to Thor's adventures, Waititi describes the movie as a "superhero romantic comedy set in outer space." Waititi previously directed Thor: Ragnarok in 2017.

Long-serving MCU star Chris Hemsworth returns as Thor – the heroic Asgardian and proclaimed God of Thunder. He is joined by Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, the renowned astrophysicist who has a complicated relationship with the titular superhero. Thor: Love and Thunder shows the next chapter in the pair's on-again, off-again romance. Jane Foster will also make her first appearance in the MCU as Lady Thor.

In addition to Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman, Thor: Love and Thunder features the return of several other fan-favorite Marvel characters. This includes Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Chris Pratt as Peter Quill, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer and Karen Gillan as Nebula. Christian Bale makes his Marvel debut as Gorr the God Butcher. Gorr is a cunning and powerful villain determined to eliminate all gods from the universe. Thor, Jane Foster and Valkyrie must use their abilities to stop his crusade.

Although not an official title, Thor: Love and Thunder is also known as Thor 4.
