What holidays does your daycare close for? Mine is closed for a week in July and then a few days like the day before thanksgiving. My husband who was very pro daycare before our daughter was born often criticizes our daycare which I am beyond happy with. When I told him they were closed the day before thanksgiving he was like well that’s annoying; I wonder if other daycares do that. Anyway I was just curious about other day care holidays. I warned him once our daughter is in school there are going to be a lot more closings so enjoy it now! Stubborn husband...

I am a Director of a childcare. We only close on the Holidays with the exception of Black Friday and Christmas’s Eve. We do not close for any weeks. Also we do not follow the school schedules for snow days. We very rarely close for snow. I’m in Massachusetts.

Is this a center or home? Closing for a full week seems odd for a center. Our center is closed about 10 days per year. The main holidays plus a staff development day, basically.

Ours is closed for major holidays, thanksgiving day, Christmas Day, Fourth of July, etc. They also have one or two staff in-service days per year that they are closed for but that’s it. If the local district closes for inclement weather (like they did for the recent hurricanes) the daycare will close too which I think is reasonable. It’s not really a problem for us. DH has two older kids in elementary and high school and they have way more holidays.

Our in home daycare, which we love and have been using for almost eight years, closes for all the major holidays and extra days around Thanksgiving and Christmas. they also close for ay least a week and sometimes longer over the summer for family vacations. It is definitely a struggle for us trying to figure out coverage for those days, but we're fortunate to have grandparents who will take a few days off to help us as well as us planning our own vacation time around this schedule. Some of the daycare families have found back up sitters or daycares to use for the weeks our sitter is closed.

Our day care is closed the 6 usual six holidays: New Years Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. If they think they will have low attendance, the ask the parents who will be coming in a certain day and close or stay open based on that. Like this year I think 4th of July was on a Tuesday and they were like "Usually employers give employees the extra day off, will you need care that day?" That annoyed me because there's no way that would ever happen to me. But yes, they still stayed open. I don't know our rules around Black Friday and Christmas Eve. I guess I'll have to find out about those!

Ours is definitely open the day before thanksgiving! They’re just closed for major holidays which hasn’t been an issue bc I’m a teacher and I’m usually off work too

I worked at a daycare that only closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas. Parents would leave kids with us on Christmas Eve to do their last minute shopping....

Our daycare closes for 8 holidays and a transition day in September. They had emergency closure due to a pipe flooding once, and they will close if our schools close due to inclement weather. The schedule's not bad. Most of this you would have access to when you first enroll. Some daycares close for a week in the summer near us. But the bigger daycare centers don't (and we used those). I wouldn't really mind as long as I knew ahead of time.

My daycare is closed only for major holidays like Christmas, Thanksgiving, 4th of July, Labor Day, etc. all the days I normally get off anyways.
In addition they are closed 2 pre planned days a year (advertised well in advance) for staff training/CPR.
